Description
Tourniquets are used to dilate veins, making them bigger and easier to find. They must only be used if all other techniques have failed and the veins remain difficult to find.
Characteristics
This medical device is a regulated healthcare product that bears the CE marking in compliance with this regulation.
Manufactured by: Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Weobley Limited, Tewkesbury Business Park, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, GL20 8UQ, England
Instructions for use
- The tourniquet must be placed before disinfecting the injection site.
- It must only be lightly tightened, as if it is too tight for too long, it can cause a lack of blood supply.
- It should be loosened as soon as the needle is placed in the vein, before injecting the product.

Tourniquets must only be used if all other techniques have failed and the veins remain difficult to find.
Finding a vein without a tourniquet
There are several ways to gain access to superficial veins in the arms:
- Clenching and unclenching the fist;
- Rotation movements with the arm;
- Leaving the arm to hang down;
- Allowing warm water to flow over the arm;
- Rubbing the arm with an alcohol swab.
Precautions for use
Never share a tourniquet: risk of virus transmission (Hepatitis C Virus [HCV], etc.).
Regular disinfection is required: risk of bacterial contamination if not disinfected.
