Description

Developed exclusively for harm reduction, the Selfinject syringe is designed for people who inject drugs.

Insulin syringes are standard for harm reduction. Their low dead space reduces the risk of virus transmission if the syringe is shared. The short, thin needle helps to protect from vein damage.

The Selfinject syringe is pre-fitted with a detachable needle, which can be changed if necessary, allowing for a safe disposal solution.

Instructions for use

Hygiene recommendations

  • Protective caps on the needle and plunger ensure the sterility of the syringe. They should be removed at the last second.
  • Do not touch the needle or the plunger with the hands or fingers to avoid contamination, as the plunger can be used to mix the product.
  • Disinfect the injection site using an alcohol swab just before injecting.

Attaching the Sterifilt

  • Slot the tip of the syringe into the Sterifilt. Gently turn 90° until perfectly attached.

Injection

  • Place the syringe parallel to the vein.
  • Angle the needle so that the eye (bevelled edge) is facing up, at approx. 20°.
  • Push down the plunger slowly, toward the heart.
  • After injecting, use a dry swab or compress to apply pressure to the injection site.

Waste disposal

  • Dispose of the used syringe using a safe healthcare waste container. If this is not possible, place it in a closed plastic bottle and dispose of it with household waste.
  • Note: The needle can be detached from the syringe after injecting, to avoid accidental injections. Remember to place the cap back onto the needle before detaching the needle from the syringe.
Detechable fixed needle

Precautions for use
